Black Girl Watching 01.06.22.

I have not cleared my head from the holiday fog. I spent most of my time watching Seinfeld again. I don’t regret it. But let’s hit the highlights.

Watching

Spiderman 3, 3 (2021)

It was absolutely everything I wanted it to be. Like truly hearts desire.

Insecure Finale (HBO)

While I have been mostly meh about the last season, the season finale really did bring it on home. I was glad they took the Six Feet Under let’s flash forward to the end route. It was pleasing.

The Witcher S2 , E1&2 (Netflix)

I am pacing myself. Mostly cause S1 was pre-pandemic and also I need to tamper my straight-up obsession with Henry Cavill. Although I’m kinda upset it’s been 2 episodes watched and he hasn’t gotten topless once. I am owed.

Don’t Look Up (2021) (Netflix)

This is the asteroid is about to hit the earth and no one listens to the scientist movie. Let’s get into it with no spoilers. It is funny. For people who are in on the joke that most Americans will just do what the entertainers tell them but it’s only really funny if you’re kind of a jerk. Like how Veep is funny. Smart comedy for mean people.
Also there are no Black women in this movie. I knew that going in and I know Adam McKay. I’m not saying to force them for diversity’s sake but in a movie that covers science, politics, and entertainment, you’d think there would be at least one.

Hawkeye Finale (Disney+)

It really, really paid off. We were very pleased. But it was still lowest stakes Disney+ MCU content. If you know what that sentence means then we’re best friends.

Re-Watching

The French Dispatch (2021). It’s on digital finally (I saw it in theaters) and I bought it and have watched it twice in 4 days and I’ll continue to watch it over and over. Enamored. Although if you haven’t done a Wes Anderson movie, don’t make this one your first. Start with…Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Reading

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab – 4 stars. Good but too long.

Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert – 5 stars because Talia Hibbert is consistently yes. Last of the Brown Sisters set of books.

The Love Con by Seressia Glass- 4 stars. Blerd girl falls in love with her best friend? Yes please.

The Bad Boy Experiment by Reese Ryan – 5 stars. Last of the Bourbon Brothers romance series.

I read 20 pages of the book I Love You But I’ve Chosen Darkness and then immediately put it in the “unreadable” pile.

Someone’s Daughter by Ashley C. Ford – I just finished this book and it is well-written but hard to read because of subject matter.

Watchlist

The Righteous Gemstones S2 (HBO)
Kings of Napa (OWN)
The 355 (2021) but like it’s only in theaters and not streaming how are we still at not streaming? This isn’t Spiderman.
The Tragedy of MacBeth (2021) (Apple+)
Emily in Paris S2 (Netflix). I watched watched, not hate watched, S1 and need to see what this fool is up to now.
Peacemaker S1 (HBOMax). In this house, we pledge allegiance to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But I will be watching this DC show. 1. DC TV is fine. I mean I loved the animated Harley Quinn series so much. But I also liked the Suicide Squad and the new new Suicide Squad with John Cena’s Peacemaker character. Cause he’s in on the joke (see above comment about smart comedies for jerks).

Un-Watch List

There is a new Aaliyah album coming out this month featuring like Drake and The Weeknd and like…no.
