Coming of Age

I finished reading Maame (I might get back into posting my media things but I want to use this cool graphic thing I’ve seen but I’m not downloading another app) and it was about a mid-20s Black Brit trying to find her way in the world. A coming of age tale.

Your internet friend Addison is rounding the bend of becoming a full-fledged teen when she turns 13 this month. (I will give you a moment to pause and consider the passing of time). And I was lamenting about Americans not having a coming of age thing (I blamed racism).

But then I was like why is are coming of age tales and celebrations reserved for the youth? The other day I was yelling at the TV about these Clearblue commercials. There’s a test where you can pee to see how far into menopause you are. And I was like “some executive was tasked with getting more women to pee on sticks so they invented an ovulation test and a menopause test and there will be a class action suit for data mining in 10 years.” I don’t need a pee stick to tell me I’m in perimenopause. OMG buying a Clearblue test at 41? Start the rapture. I’m yelling at TV commercials more frequently. Where’s my coming of age tale or celebration?! Men get a hot young wife or a racecar for their mid-life crisis and I get dry skin and Clearblue commercials.

that’s it, i’m done
