2024

Larry David would say it’s too late to say “Happy New Year” and he would be right.

If you’ve been around, you know I’m not a resolutions/goal-oriented person. Sometime last month, instead of lamenting about what I “didn’t accomplish” in 2023, I just went through my camera roll and wrote down all the cool shit I did do instead. I mean isn’t that why I take photos of all my food? And my family and stuff I guess.

Anyway so this year is going to be even more bite-sized as far as things to do goes.

  • I got a new planner. Yes I get a new NOTEBOOK all the time but I bought a bound planner called a Jibun Techo. I did not plan to buy this planner. I was planning to ride out my bullet journal notebook until I ran out of pages. But I was passing time in Barnes and Noble and they (have recently paired with Paper Source to stay afloat I assume) have expanded their journal/planner section for this wonderful time of year. And I went for it. I’m just gonna bullet journal in it but it’s a journey cause I am not made for change. And yet…
  • Read Pride & Prejudice. If you are not Extremely Online in Bookish Spaces there is a big hubbub about your end of the year Goodreads/Storygraph goals. There is also a big “omg you’re still on Goodreads when Storygraph exists?!” thing that I can not get into. Anyway I set a moderate 24 book goal just to fill in the space, but really I just want to read Pride & Prejudice cause I never have. I bought it and Brave New World (sorry AP English IV teacher, I just never read it) for $5 at Half Price Books.
  • No Spend stationery Q1. I have a bunch of shit. And will never use it all. I’m not quite to the point of complaining about overconsumption and I made the following note to myself the other day:
    • “I want to say I’m above being influenced but the actuality is there’s nothing cool enough to being influenced to do.”
      • This is generally true, as I sip from my Stanley cup I absolutely demanded for Christmas. But I mean, you get it. I have enough stuff.

That’s it. Read Pride and Prejudice. Use this new planner. Don’t buy a bunch of shit.

OH! And if you have missed it, the last thing I did last year was finally put my books in paperback.

Also enjoy this video of people clamoring for new Stanley cups at Target to then go put on StockX for 3 times the price.

  1. “I want to say I’m above being influenced but the actuality is there’s nothing cool enough to being influenced to do.” This is such a good summation of how I feel about the modern online experience. lol. Where’s the “cool”? Where’s the “feel good”? I understand the human desire to belong, but I guess my FOMO isn’t strong enough to drive me toward stuff that feels empty when the world is full of stuff that makes me sing.
