Done Is Better Than Perfect

I wrote a novella. I know I said this already but it’s been a week of editing and re-editing and fretting and just like “this book is ass” and whatnot. It’s not. I know it’s not it’s completely well and good and fine but I’ve read it through every iteration and back to back and in a robot’s voice and I just got tired of it. Every round of edits was another thing to fix and to change and then I had to remember the saying “done is better than perfect”.

I hear it all the time but to actually put it into practice is something else. Like I could be moving commas and searching for synonyms till the cows came home to make it “perfect” but it would never be done then would it.

So it’s done and I keep thinking about the Fall Out Boy Song “Sophmore Slump or Comeback of the Year” (cause From Under the Cork Tree was actually their second cd but it’s the one that got them famous) and like how on earth did I go through this before. Writing is hard. Sharing is harder. Finishing is the hardest. I can’t even imagine if I get feedback from it. Everyone keeps going “you’re an artist and you’re sensitive about your shit.” YES! Just cause Erykah Badu the one that said it don’t make it not true.

Anyway, it’ll be out in the world Friday. And yours for $1.99. Amazon tells me that it’s 110 pages (apparently Two Too Many was 268?! What the French, Toast?!) and you can read it in one sitting. ASK ME HOW I KNOW.

HA!
