Lately. 09.02.20.

At the beginning of this, a blogger friend Lashawn sent out disposable cameras to capture our time spent during what we thought was then a temporary quarantine. I don’t even know what to call this anymore besides NewLife and this is just Pandemic America.

I got the photos back and it taught me two things; 1: maybe I don’t know how to take a photo? 2: the outlook on NewLife has changed greatly since March.

Aside from it being so ridiculously hot (although I saw a tweet that said this will probably be the coolest summer in the next 20 years and it melted my brain, much like the heat) we are not even really trying to entertain ourselves during the day. We can’t ride bikes so we really have just leaned heavy into streaming and Mario Kart. I don’t even care. There is no division between work and not work and weekends and not weekends.

Back in January I bought some tarot cards and since we’ve just been sitting here, I’m doing a card a day read. I may have also bought a crystal. Witchery is a comfort. So is skin care.

Addison is on her second or third rewatch of Blackish and her fourth or fifth rewatch of Ninja Turtles. I know that rewatching things is a calm for anxiety of watching something new so again, I just let it happen. I’m rewatching Scrubs. I’ve also watched a lot of Bob’s Burgers, rewatched Kimmy Schmidt, Community, Rick and Morty, Good Omens, American Vandal.

Upload (Amazon) S1 was a treat. Insecure (HBO) S4 was a treat. Harley Quinn (DC Streaming/HBO Max) S1 was a treat.

4th grade starts next week. Fortunately, online for at least the first 6 weeks. After that who knows because I mean who knew we’d be here four months ago?

A few times a week I have a full freak out that we have to deal with the general terribleness of everything while still living life. It’s honestly ridiculous. I’ve had bursts of creativity. Bursts of the ability to read a book. It’s unsustainable. However, I did take myself to the stationery store a couple weeks ago and bought every single notebook I wanted because it’s important to document the minutiae of life otherwise we don’t realize how much has actually changed. Plus for a couple weeks there was a time we couldn’t buy notebooks and I mourned every notebook I “had the sense” to put back. Never again.

Lately I have been rationally irritated that I can’t see TENET in IMAX. It’s not just a movie, it’s that life is so shit in America that you are not afforded the opportunity to see a film in theaters. Especially when the rest of the world can see it. We’re on punishment (rightly so) and I’m pouty about it. Like if I would have known The Gentlemen was the last movie I was going to see at a movie theaters, I would have celebrated with $25 of concession snacks.

Anyway, here’s life at the beginning of NewLife, well documented minutiae that seemed silly at the time but I mean look.
