Watching
Eternals (2021)
Marvel makes a movie about the perils of blindly following religion. Or I guess a few superheroes deal with why they are heroes. My favorite is Thena because favorite Greek goddess but Druig had my whole heart. It is not Iron Man but nothing will be. It’s a good movie but if you aren’t engrained in the MCU, you can wait till it hits Disney+.
Breaking News In Yuba County (2021)
This is one of those movies where you know every person in it. Allison Janey, Regina Hall, Samira Wiley, Wanda Sykes, Awkwafina, Mila Kunis. But like why did they all get in this? It’s so bad. Allison Janey plays a bored, overlooked woman whose husband is cheating on her. When she catches him, and he dies mid-stroke, instead of saying he died she says he’s missing and calamity ensues. And a shocking amount of people die? It’s like Drowning Mona* but less funny. Props to anyone who actually remembers that movie.
*I worked at the movies in high school and saw a lot of Drowning Mona even though nobody else did.
Love Life S2 (HBO)
I finished Love Life. I will not spoil it but I will insist that you watch it. Author Brandon Taylor says that with all the content we consume now, nothing is “good”. We either vibe with something or we don’t. (I’m extremely paraphrasing you can read his substack where he talks about how Netflix’s The Chair isn’t good or bad but he vibes with it. We can talk about the word “vibe” another time.) Like I could nitpick or compare it to things it is not, but I enjoyed this show and vibed with it heavily.
Succession S3E5 (HBO)
My boy Ken. Whew my sad boi Ken. HOW CAN I CONTINUE TO ROOT FOR YOU WHEN YOU ACT THE WAY YOU ACT. I’m furious. They all make my nerves bad. But bless this show for giving me the phrase “piss-mad”.
Insecure S5E4 (HBO)
I enjoy looking at Kendrick Sampson. And I love that his character is from Houston like he is. That’s really all I have to say about the last episode. Except that I never considered earthquakes happening at the beach? In the water? Yes. On land, sure I understand the concept. But the beach? Absolutely no.
Curb S11E4 (HBO)
It’s really just fine this season. Just. Fine.
Real Housewives of Salt Lake City S2E10 (Bravo)
ANDY COHEN BRINGS ME DRAMA. Y’all when they were all crying in that limo about Jen Shah getting arrested. Riveting television. Like this is what every city needs to be giving. Snow bunny looks. Chalets. Designer purses. Cult churches. Federal crimes.
Re-Watching
Since Netflix got the rights to Seinfeld I’ve been watching that as my background show. Skipping the two clip shows and the terrible finale, I’ve finished it. Here are the rankings of seasons: 4, 3, 5, 7, 8, 1&2, 9. Am I just going to hit play again? Probably.
Reading
The Roommate Risk – Talia Hibbert
Talia wrote the popular Brown Sisters books but also writes other romance novels that don’t have cutesie covers. Her stories follow the same formula (based on the few books that I’ve read) a deeply flawed female character and a big burly sensitive patient male character. And lots of sexy times. These are not complaints. The formula works.
Watchlist
In the next week I’m looking forward to
Adele – 30
Cowboy Bebop S1 (Netflix) (no I did not watch the anime)
Wheel of Time (Prime Video) (no I did not read the books)
Un-Watch List
I know Adele did a lovely concert and subsequent interview with Oprah but I didn’t watch it live and I didn’t DVR it and Paramount+ is on the living room TV only and I just don’t see myself sitting to catch up on it.
Tiger King S2 (Netflix)
