The thing about DVR

The other day I gave Addy a brief lesson on the joy of DVR.  I told her a long long time ago you had to have a VCR if you wanted to record a show that would be on but for whatever reason you wouldn’t be home and you just couldn’t miss it.  Or if BET or MTV was having an awesome block of videos and you loved every song or you wanted to learn the dance routines you would throw in a tape and hit record.  Or find a tape and put Scotch tape over the part that popped out so you couldn’t tape over it and tape over it.  Then you could watch it at your own leisure.

Then came TiVo and this was a little box you connected to your cable box and it would digitally record things for you.  No need to find a tape! And it would even be like “wow you watch a lot of Sex and the City.  Maybe you’d like Friends and Will & Grace too” and then tape those for you too if you asked it.  Wow.

And now every cable service has a DVR program built in that even lets you record things (but mommy still says “tape”) even while you’re watching something else.  Matter of fact I can record 3 things in High Definition while we’re watching another something else.  Woo!

Now my DVR box is chock full of entertainment and I have about 30 hours of things to watch.  When?! If I couldn’t find the time to watch it when it originally aired how the hell will I have time to watch 4 episodes of it later?  I had to quit Glee cause there were 7 episodes on the box.  I taped this movie Peep Show with Rainn Wilson and Taraji P Henson on Showtime cause it looks like the Indie kinda stuff I used to go see at Angelika before those bastards closed it.  We’re 4 episodes behind on Boardwalk Empire and a new one comes on every Sunday making us even further behind.  I need to know what Knucky Thompson is doing! What’s Chalky White being gangsta about?!  They’re frozen in time on my DVR and I’m too chicken to read some things on Twitter cause of spoiler alerts.

I need to petition my local government officials to declare a national “Catch Up on your DVR Day”.  And if you don’t have DVR then TV should re-air a block of shows in marathon form so you can catch up.  And not like Real Housewives of New Jersey (which i really want to see) marathon that comes on every Saturday anyway.  Like “Oh here are the past 4 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy”.

I will vote for that proposition.

I should be writing for NaNo but instead I’m blogging and downloading apps for my fancy pants new phone and watching football and listening to the new Florence + The Machine.  Gah! When they put the word count widget on the site I’ll post it here so y’all can keep up with my word count and yell at me for being behind.  It’s actually going pretty well though.  Maybe I’m more focused this year and not pregnant and sleepy.  Who knows.
