It’s been a while. So I won’t do a long recap, let’s just start with…
Watching
Love Is Blind – S6 (Netflix). Y’all what a trainwreck. I cannot look away. It’s probably the absolute worst season and none of these couples should get married. I’m sure I said that S2-5. Riveting television.
Abbott Elementary – S3 (ABC). The drug prevention episode? It’s one of the funniest tv episodes to exist.
Madame Web (2024). So people forget that comic book movies used to be completely mediocre. This is what that was. It wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t the worst movie I’ve ever seen (that would be Cabin Fever (2002)). It was a basic comic book movie.
Dune 2 (2024). HOLY BALLS. I have been furious since the second Dune 1 ended that Dune 2 was not already filmed and ready to view. I’m even more furious that 3 just got done being written. Remember that time The Matrix 2 came out in May and then The Matrix 3 came out in December OF THE SAME YEAR? Anyway that’s not the case with Dune but I’ll allow it because this is absolutely fantastic storytelling. Phenomenal. Like is this what they felt like when the Star Wars came out in the 70s? I’m glad I still have the capacity for my mind to be blown.

Feud: Truman Capote vs. The Swans E1-E5 (FX). When the trailer for this came out I was like “rich white women being messy is my jam” and I planned to be seated. The story…is good. Truman Capote was a messy bitch who lived for drama and told stories about his philandering rich lady friends in his fiction and they didn’t take too kindly to it. This is all based in reality. I gotta read In Cold Blood now. But the show is just okay. I don’t know how FX gets away with so many F Bombs but they are doing it. It should have been maybe 5 episodes, not 8. But it’s still in progress so we’ll see how it ends.
Shogun S1 – E1 (FX). Like I said, FX is not F’n around. It’s basically HBO at this point. Shogun is about the Christian Protestants that try to get into Japan to stop the Portugese Catholics from colonizing. After Blue Eye Samurai and this I really really need to get into some Japanese history. Watch this show.
The Regime – S1 E1 (HBO). Kate Winslet is a Middle European (they don’t name the country) chancellor who is dealing with trying to get her country back in order after the previous administration has been beaten. See aforementioned note about rich white women being messy. She’s smart, and gorgeous, and absolutely batshit crazy. She is a hypochondriac and she keeps her deceased father in the basement of the castle. It’s supposed to be satire but it’s only been one episode. We’ll see how it goes. It’s extremely no Mare of Easttown.
Curb Your Enthusiasm S12 E1-5 (HBO). I’m so sad this is the last season but it is for the best. Richard Lewis passed last week but he was able to finish the season and him and Larry truly were best friends. That said, this season is the tops. Just hilarious.
Reading
I gave into the hype and read Divine Rivals. This is a YA fantasy series and I read neither of those. Honestly, I bought the two books because there are gold typewriters embossed on the cover. It’s hard to get into fantasy because they have to build a whole world and folklore and you imagine everyone with a British accent. Fortunately, this book is not 600 pages and does not have dragons. I will read the second one later but not so much later I forget what sort of beings they are fighting.
That said, I can’t rate it cause it’s literally half the story and it could have been one 600 page book I wouldn’t have read but it’s two 340 page books I can handle.
What are you watching and reading that’s enjoyable? What’s your current comfort watch?
I almost spit out my coffee reading about you reading fantasy imagining everyone has a British accent. Now I want to check out Shogun!
I have decided to become an F1 girlie, so I’m doing F1: Drive to Survive on Netflix. Men in racing uniforms, galavanting about exotic locations to run each other off the road and talk shit. I’m RIVETED (and crushing on men far too young for me, but it’s television and I cannot deny a good pair of dimples).
Saw Dune 2, it was beautiful and fine? Until (character) breaks bad in the third act. Then I was IN.
My reading was ass in Februrary. Picking back up with a biography of Jackie Onassis this month (speaking of rich white woman mess).
