Addy’s Book Club

Pandemic Summer 2 is odd. We’re deep in knowing how to live in a pandemic, but not exactly used to it and yet very much tired of it. I am still working at home so we don’t have to send Addy to some sort of daycare or day camp which is good except is it? Fortunately, enough kids live in this neighborhood that she can have a friend over to Nintendo or go to a friend’s house for Nintendo.

I gave Addy the summer between 4th and 5th grade workbook but if I tell her to read for 30 minutes a day she just won’t. I just need to say that she didn’t watch 15 hours of YouTube every day and I can only take that Vlogger voice for so long and have demanded 30 minutes of no TV every day. So we started a book club. Me, Addy, and my sister got a middle-grade graphic novel (Ghosts by Raina Telgemeier) and read it then we went to Jason’s Deli for dinner and talked about it. Our next book is Smile by Raina Telgemeier, and the one after that will be Sisters by Raina.

She actually told me on the way home that she had fun and I never thought that would happen around reading. I mean I have fun reading every day but still. It’s a stretch for Addison. I don’t know if this will be more than just the summer. I don’t see why not. They don’t do personal pan pizza certificates anymore so what other option did I have.
