#NewMusicMonth – Currents & Woman to Woman

Day 06 – Currents

The Who:

Tame Impala is a new wavy band from Australia.  I just now heard of them because of XMU but apparently they’ve been a thing for a while.

The Why:

So there’s this song The Less I Know the Better that makes me sway sing when I hear it so that was enough to put them on the #NewMusicMonth list.  Plus Rihanna (not that I’m a fan of her music) did a cover of one of their songs on ANTI, her new album so they’ve been getting more rotation on the indie stations.

The Deets:

Tame Impala is heavy on the synthesizing and electronica side.  But not heavy thumping music just every song could be on the Donnie Darko soundtrack, so it gives you that 80s synth vibe.

Verdict:

I’m not going to delete it off my phone now that I’ve downloaded it.  They have some good potential to be in my regular band rotation.  Which is great because the only Aussie band I’ve ever loved was Jet and they are no longer a thing (sadz).

Day 07 – Woman to Woman

The Who:

So Sunday I just bit the bullet and signed up for the free month of Spotify which will in turn to me being a paid Spotify person.  I know just not having commercials is going to be worth it.  Anyway, Esme Patterson wasn’t on Amazon Prime and I had to listen in order without other stuff mixed in.  She’s straight up folk singer.  Like bluegrass folk.  No jazz, no blues.  Folk.

The Why:

I meant to look for her when I pulled up Emile Sande and figured I’d correct my mistake.

The Deets:

Woman to Woman is a super short album, like 30 minutes, so I listened after the SuperBowl on my way home.  It helped Addy go to sleep in the backseat and it was calming enough for a Sunday night.

Verdict:

Meh.  I like my Norah Jones version of bluesy bluegrass almost folk and this was too folk for me.  I still like her voice, especially on the Shakey Graves music, but this just wasn’t something I’d actively listen to.
