Get To Know Bre

So sometimes I like to read those posts where Bloggers do the getting to know the blogger.  And I realized some people might be new or newish here and didn’t know me back when I just wanted to blog cause I had to update everyone on my pregnancy (the kid will be 5 next month) or wanted to share some fiction (I haven’t written in forever).

But when I went to do a search for “blogger questionnaires” it was to figure out my “brand”.  Ok but I’m a person and I started blogging because I wanted to type and learned sometimes people listen.

And so I am going to ask myself questions I wish people asked at networking events because work is the worst thing to talk about.

What’s Your Favorite Movie?

My favorite movie is Fight Club.  I have a Fight Club tattoo.  I have a poster of Brad Pitt holding Fight Club soap in my bedroom, and I have the DVD and BluRay editions of the movie.  Why Fight Club? For obvious reasons because Brad Pitt is beautiful and Edward Norton is phenomenal.  Obvsiously.  But mostly Fight Club came out in 1999 which was a fantastic year for movies.  Seriously.  Look it up in a new tab.  Anyway it was so trippy and violent and deep down (ok right under the surface) it spoke to my teen angst.  So angsty.  It’s why I can’t stop listening to Fall Out Boy.  (I listned to Nirvana at a young age as well).  It was a time when message boards were still a thing and you could read people’s theories and compare them to the book and listen to the DVD commentary and argue points on The Narrator’s real name and things of that nature.

Second favorite, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.  3-10 are up to debate depending on mood and are more genre specific but you asked about favorite.

Fun Fact: I liked the Fight Club book but it was in no way my favorite.  Not even my favorite Chuck Palahunik book.  That would be Lullaby.

What’s Your Theory on Time Travel?

That’s an odd question.  I think if one were to travel in time it would be an endless loop of fixing one’s minor mistakes in order to end up with present/future self’s “best life”.  Like first you’d go back to pick winning lotto numbers or to not let that one love get away.  Ok but then you’d be like “oh I shouldn’t have made *that* investment” or “we shouldn’t have gotten married” then you want to fix more mistakes creating too many alternative timelines where nothing is any better than the life you’d have if you hadn’t have traveled back in the first place.

People who say they’d go back and like kill baby Hitler or whatever don’t make any sense.  How can you even judge the consequences? It’d be like your personal screw up but on a global scale.  And then in the present if you came back like “I killed baby Hitler” nobody would understand the context.

The best thing to do would be to go back, silently observe a specific event.  Say, Woodstock.  So if/when the time comes and time travel is  thing, just everyone agree to go back and see Woodstock.  That’s it.

Lastly, what do people think about you that just isn’t correct?

Well, I hate to admit this to people because it causes an uproar.  I tend to come off as a little nerdy or into nerdy things because from time to time I pick up a book and enjoy movies (see aforementioned Fight Club talk).  But I’ve never ever read nor have I seen anything Harry Potter.

I know.  You’d think with the glasses and awkwardness that I knew all the things.  Nope.  I pick up when people are speaking HP because I’ve been on the internet the past 20 years, but I’ve never got into them.  Maybe it’s my hipster tendencies.  But I also don’t get into series.  So much commitment.  I’d like to think I’m saving it for when Addy gets to be bigger and we can read them together but honestly I…just don’t have the interest.  I know, right?!

So there.  There’s some info on me.  Please feel free to use these questions to break the ice with people to avoid talking about work or politics.  You can also tell me more about you!

  1. Oooh fun!
    1) Anchorman or the 30 Year Old Virgin. This is why I can't be asked this at networking events. But seriously, I watch them every time they're on, I quote them a lot, and they're hilarious. I'm not good with favorites, though. And I'm also not a movie watcher.
    2) Why is it always Baby Hilter they want to kill? Why not 16 or 18 year old Hitler? Just wondering. Also I agree with you that time travel is a slippery slope. If you knew more about Harry Potter then I would reference the Time Turner and how that's an interesting angle, but I don't think that has been meme'd yet, sooooo…
    3) Good one. And I have no idea. I can't think of a box to put myself in and an exception to it, but you can let me know as I'm sure there are many!

  2. Great post! Now to answer your questions:
    1. Favorite movie: It's A Wonderful Life. I love the fact that my life matters, and it impacts so many other lives. Awesome!
    2. Time travel: I don't know that I think about time travel as much as I think about alternate universes. You know, like things are going on the same with slight differences that are phenomenal. Such a cool concept.
    3. What people think about me that isn't correct: That I don't have a temper. I'm very even-tempered, but I can get to a level of anger that scare the be-jeezus out of me. I don't like that person, so I try very hard not to go there. It's not nice. . . at all.

    Thanks, Bre'!!!
