Subtlety Is Not Her Strong Suit

Addy doesn’t say a lot of words but she seems to follow commands fairly well.  She’ll turn off the light or get a cup or slowly continue to do something we tell her not to while looking at us.  Although the last bit isn’t exactly following commands, it shows that she knows enough to know she shouldn’t be doing it.

Sometimes I’m not exactly sure what she wants from us.  Lately if she poops she’ll pull at her diaper like “get this off of me!”.  If she sees us drinking juice she’ll stick her arms out for the cup.  Occasionally  I’ll think she’s hungry so I’ll make food but then she won’t eat.  It’s frustrating.  But last night, she was pretty clear in letting this be known.

Brownlee was in the kitchen rinsing out a cup or something.  Addy tends to follow him in there but stand at the doorway and just watch him.  Real nosy like.  I think she’s just waiting for him to unload the dishwasher so she can just play in it.  He went to leave but she blocked him.  He tried to juke her but she blocked him again and started forcing him back into the kitchen.  YELLING!  Like he was in trouble.  She just kept pushing him further into the kitchen.  We figured maybe, just maybe she was hungry.

One of the bumpies hipped me to some natrual/organicy chicken nuggets from Whole Foods.  I got her a bag of nuggets, some kid-sized (as in finger foods, not the same size as the kid) fish sticks, and since the sweet potato cubes went over so well, some butternut squash.  So far they’ve all been successful.  Except the butternut squash packaging.  It’s 100% biodegradable, which is crunchy talk for “will crumble immediately”.  Especially when it’s already about 95 degrees in the evening and the cubes kinda start to sweat on the way home from the grocery store leaving a wet spot on the bag that is now see through.

I throw a few fish sticks on the plate, and put them in the microwave.  She runs over to her chair and starts beating on it so Brownlee can put her in there.  Then she just sits and waits.  She hears the beep and sees me take the plate out but doesn’t immediately get the fish sticks.  Addy then starts to BEAT on the tray.  Even after cooking at half power the fish sticks are nuclear hot.  Luckily I had a package of butternut squash/white bean organic puree in the pantry while I let the fish sticks cool.  That was enough to calm her.

Until I realized 3 tiny fish sticks were not enough.  She then proceeded to eat 3 more fish sticks, a serving of the freezer butternut squash, a handful of Teddy Grahams, and almost half of my little cup of chocolate ice cream.

Yes the fish sticks are THAT good.  Damn you Whole Foods.

  1. You knew the day she was born that she was going to let you know, in her own way, what was up! LOL! Gotta love it!
