Gymboree! – BreWrites

Gymboree!

The most that I knew about Gymboree was that it was a kid’s clothing store that I never really went in to.  And then a bumpie mentioned they took their kid to Gymboree’s Play & Music, and I saw one of the places by YaYa’s house so I went online to look them up.

I talked to a co-worker about it and he said it was cool enough but had a fee like the regular gym and you only took your kid once a week.  But of course there was a special online for a freebie class and blah blah clickity click, me and Addy were signed up for a trial.

And off we went.  It’s about 10 minutes from the house (15 with my getting her in the new seat, more on that in another post I’m sure) so we headed off to find the place and see what Music I was all about.

Apparently this place is tailored for kids under 5 only.  So the people there are extra extra friendly.  It makes me wonder how they are outside of Gymboree.  Like if you would saw Cinderella smoking in the parking lot at Disneyland.  Or if Mr. Rogers had a potty mouth.  We put on our name tags, took our places on the mat, and waited for class to start.

We had a substitute teacher because the normal teacher was out.  Like we would know the difference.  The chick was a “super senior” at UT with a double major in Physics and Fashion.  Talk about over qualified.  She said she was hoping to get into the PhD program but really wanted to teach kids music.  She even had on her own tap shoes.  True story.

The theme for class was Broadway, and Teacher was very much into it.  In addition to the tap shoes, she had a very theatrical speaking voice, and was probably the lead in a lot of plays in high school.  She even sang to the kids when they had to put up their balls, bells, and “wings”.

Addy LOVED the class.  LOVED LOVED it.  I mostly wanted her to get used to being around new kids.  And I wasn’t going to be climbing all over toys so the gym part was out.  We sang Be Our Guest, a few other songs from some musicals.  Did a bumpy bus ride (via mommy’s lap).  And they listened to Under the Sea while Teacher blew bubbles.  I learned Addy thinks bubbles are awesome.  She didn’t even really try to eat them.  She just wanted to catch them or smash them as they fell on the floor.  I was tempted to buy the Gymboree bubbles but we’ll just hit up the dollar store soon.

45 minutes after class started I was signing us up for the monthly package whatever dealy.  So we’ll be spending an hour on Sundays in Gymboree doing music things.

  1. I'm glad you guys had so much fun! Now, we just need to throw you an official "suburban mom" initiation/party and y'all will be all set. 😉
