I was supposed to write a post last week, back when the only thing in the world that mattered was Everything Everywhere All At Once, and Atlanta. But I have just finished E5 of Moon Knight and now that is added to the list of the only things that matter. I won’t spoil anything so you can keep reading.
Watching
Everything, Everywhere, All At Once (2022)
I will not do you the disservice of trying to explain what this movie is about. Just know that it is fantastic and you need to see it, preferably in a theater as safely as possible. 10 million rating units. I can not stop thinking about it and will probably go see it again. Soon. And then buy the digital release and watching it over and over.

Upload S2 (Prime Video)
S2 is good and more of that lite dystopia I enjoy but it ended on a cliffhanger and I don’t like that. Because streaming shows have no like premier season? When do your shows come back? 6 months? A year? Way later?
The Ultimatum S1 (Netflix)
Holy balls this was top-tier premium trash television. Like inject it right into my veins it was so bad. The reunion was a letdown but not enough to put a damper on the experience as a whole.
The Dropout S1 (Hulu)
I finished it and it obviously ended with Theranos dissolving. It was really well acted, but was it necessary? No. Did I learn anything new? Yes. Elizabeth Holmes loves her pop music. I was very surprised.
Shining Vale S1 (Starz)
I just happened upon this. Courteney Cox is a writer, struggling with 17 years of writer’s block. She cheated on her husband, Greg Kinnear, and Greg moves them out of New York City to a giant house in a small city, Shining Vale in Connecticut. Her teenage son and daughter are typical tv kids. She starts to try to write and is suddenly haunted by the house, and then eventually by Mira Sorvino. It’s a horror comedy (think: Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland). There are no real scares and triggers abound for mental health (depression, ending life, drug usage). It’s extremely dark humor. That said, I was into it lol. It wasn’t like a stop everything and pay attention show, it’s fine for background nehnehneh around the house.
Killing Eve S3 (AMC)
Whew boy what a ride. People (like 6 people on Twitter) complained, but did not spoil, the series finale so I have been a little hesitant to start S4. I’ll still be slow-going it on my lunch break. I think the good thing is that I have had absolutely no expectations or hopes for what I want to happen, I’ve just been enjoying the show. Because I’m so far behind there are no fan theories to engage in and I haven’t even looked up the books to see how they differ. It’s just sitting back and enjoying a show. A CONCEPT!
Detroiters S1 (Comedy Central)
This is an old show starting Sam Richardson and Tim Robbinson. They’re two best friends in Detroit (they’re obviously both from Detroit) who run an ad agency. It is absolutely absurd and I am obsessed with it. I will watch S2 and then go right back and do the whole thing again.
Atlanta S1 E1-6 (FX)
Last post, at the end of March, I wasn’t ready to discuss Atlanta S3. It was after the first two episodes and I was like “I don’t want to engage in Atlanta discourse until the end of the season, full picture, yadda yadda. But now, today? After episodes 3-6? It’s all I want to talk about. What is Van doing? Don’t you love them shooting indirect slugs at Shaun King? Jollof?! Isn’t PaperBoi the best character in the history of television? SOCKS?! REPARATIOOOOONSSSS?
Reading
Black Cake – Charmaine Wilkerson
This is the story of a Caribbean (they don’t say which island) family suffering the loss of a matriarch. But before she passed, she left her life story on a recording to play for her kids. They learn that they have a long-lost sister then it goes back to the 60s and the islands, and then the UK, and then California, and alternates between then and now and siblings and friends and orphanages and swimming. Sound like a lot? It was a lot. It doesn’t mean it was bad it’s just heavy.
The Husbands – Chandler Baker
Nora is trying to make partner at her firm and manage a toddler and deal with her husband not doing his share of the housework, when she finds a lovely new suburb that she wants to move into. The husbands are helpful and calm and the women are in powerful roles and are well supported.
It’s not a good book. Nora is a terrible lawyer and kind of an idiot. I gave it 2 stars cause I finished reading it.
Watchlist
Batman (2022) – The new5 Batman is on HBO so now I can watch it in the comfort of my own home
The Way Down Part 2 (HBOMax) – Streaming April 28th
Russian Doll S2 (Netflix)
Severance (Apple+)
Starstruck (HBO)
Killing It (Peacock)
Girls 5 Eva (Peacock. I have paid for this subscription and have only watched that JLO movie and then Bust Down 6 times)
The Staircase (HBO) – Starts May 5th. I haven’t watched the Netflix Documentary and I assume there is a podcast because of the pipeline (see: The Dropout, Inventing Anna) but this looks watchable.
Hacks S2 (HBOMax) – Starts May 12th. I was surprised this was coming back so soon but see aforementioned note about no streaming premiere seasons.
The Circle S4 (Netflix) – Starts May 4th. There have been talks of Spice Girls but they did that with Lance Bass so this doesn’t make it any more interesting.
Best Thing On the Internet
Slim pickin’s cause it’s terrible on the Internet so here is an old (in Internet times) video of this little Black girl, Victory Brinker, singing opera.
What are you into these days? Comfort watching the same stuff over and over? Back at the theater? You ready to discuss Atlanta? I’M READY.
