Summa Summa Summa Time

Second grade has been over about a month. I’m coming to terms with my child being less of a reader (at this point in time) and more of an artist. She’s very into painting and coloring and while she does keep a notebook on her at all times, it’s mostly to draw characters and make comic books. So I’m learning how to just roll with that.

I hate when people use the term “bucket list” for a season or term instead of the actual meaning for things you’re wanting to do for you die, so we are not a summer bucket list family like you might have seen on Facebook (because where else would they be?). But Addy has made a list of things she would like to do this summer and they include things like go swimming and go to the paint your own pottery place and all of these things are feasible.

We even have already checked Sea World off the list. My aunt and uncle got free tickets to Sea World so we loaded up the truck and we moved the Beverly…San Antonio that is. It’s a quick 3 hour drive (in Texas we measure distance by hours) so we left early on Thursday and stayed overnight to get to Sea World first thing Friday morning.

I went to Sea World in like the very early 90s and that was the last time I’d ever thought about going. Anyway now it is very much not just an aquarium and dolphin show. It’s a solid amusement park with full on rollercoasters, a boardwalk of games, and dolphin show. Actually dolphins and beluga whales.

We sat in the “splash zone” of the dolphins and beluga whales and while it was a great show there was minimal splashing. So Addison made sure we sat 3rd row and center for the orcas and my underwear got wet and I was ready for the day to be over. Addy suggested we dry off by riding yet another roller coaster (this is after she decided to ride the wet roller coaster since she was already wet). We left at 5:15 and were home by 8:30. Fantastico.

Addy’s also gone on a Mustang cruise with Brownlee to Austin a few weeks ago. (if you are not into the car world, a cruise is when a bunch of cars drive to the same place and then take pictures for Instagram, eat lunch, and then come home). So she’s living it up and very much reaping the benefits of the only child life. Yay summer!
