Okay since I haven’t been doing it weekly, here’s the update.

Watched.

I did a hard binge and finished 3 seasons of Veep in a week. And the show is fantastic and I am so glad that I watched it before the Democratic debates started because now everything is funny as shit. A live episode of Veep at all times.

The Meg (2018)
I absolutely love movies about giant animals eating people. No lies. I want to see the new new Godzilla because I heard it was too many animal fights and not enough human drama. The best part of the new Jurassic Park was the giant dino fight. In the world I see there are 45 minute movies that are nothing but giant monster fights.

John Wick 3 (2019)
I did not see 1 or 2 and make no plans to but I enjoyed 3 and will probably see 4 and I’m glad about the Keanuaissance that the internet has given us.

Always Be My Maybe (2019)
Netflix is losing rights to shows left and right so their original content has to be good. And they are killing the RomCom game. Also see above Keanuassiance.

The Chef Show (Netflix)
Jon Favreau decided to go on the road with his Chef concept (if you haven’t watched the movie, watch the movie) and cook for his Marvel friends and some food truck folks. It’s very good. Except that you find out Gwyneth Paltrow didn’t know she was in Spider-Man. (It’s not her fault, the Russo’s keep the cast in the dark about scenes, but still.)

Big Little Lies S2 has started and it’s…okay. I’m still very much watching it, and Meryl is AMAZING but right now I don’t know what even there is to be solving.

Robin Hood (2019)
It’s on HBO and it’s…not good. Jamie Foxx plays a moor with an American accent.

Rocketman (2019)
Taron Egerton (see also: Robin Hood) plays Elton John in the Elton John tells his life from rehab story. It is not a bad movie but it is more of a musical than I expected. And when I say musical, I mean like spontaneous dance numbers in the street. It was fine.

Yesterday (2019)
This is a movie where a worldwide power outage happens and then when the power comes on, nobody except a struggling musician knows who The Beatles are. It is very good. And you don’t even have to know all The Beatles songs, you just have to be a human on earth and you’ll know half of them anyway.

Murder Mysterday (2019) (Netflix)
Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler are a boring married couple that take a cheap ass vacation to Europe and end up in the plot of what could be a murder mystery novel. We watched this because there is literally nothing on TV and this is exactly why Netflix made this movie for you. If you have no expectations, it’s perfectly adequate and also a little funny in some bits.

Read.

Hair Love
We went to a book signing for the Hair Love book by Matthew Cheery and illustrated by Vashti Harrison. Addy had a great time and got to talk to Vashti about being a black girl that likes to draw.

Atheist Who Kneel and Pray – Tarryn Fisher
It was fine. 3.5 stars.

I started listening to the audiobook of Lost and Wanted and didn’t like it 3 hours in so I quit and got my credit back.

Rosie’s Travelling Tea Shop by Rebecca Raisin
This was the book club book and it was a cute story like if a Hallmark movie was a book. Rosie goes through a breakup and buys a Winnebago and travels through the English countryside meeting quirky friends along the way.

Listened.

Armchair Expert. – Dax had Norah Jones on one episode and this is the second musican he’s had that I absolutely love and they do acoustic songs at the end. Norah is fantastic. He also had Julia Louis-Dreyfus on and it was not a interview.

Code Switch – the Samin Nosrat episode. OMG she’s so good always. ALWAYS.

The Queen podcast. It’s a short series about how the woman that was a criminal became the face of Reagan’s “welfare queen” trope. Very interesting story. (link)

Going Through It podcast. Ann Friedman interviews women on how they pushed through difficult circumstances. Each episode is only like 20, 25 minutes and they are very, very good. The best episode is actually Jessamyn Stanley, who talks about not seeing her body type in the yoga world.

There is a new album from The Black Keys, a single from Spoon, and a single from Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes. She’s going on a solo tour with a solo album later this year and while I am happy about this I am worried about Alabama Shakes.

Good Omens – S1 (Amazon).

This is it’s own separate category because I loved it so much. I did a solid binge of the six episodes and I’m on a rewatch. Here’s the synopsis from Amazon:
Aziraphale and Crowley, of Heaven and Hell respectively, have grown rather fond of the Earth. … Aziraphale and Crowley, of Heaven and Hell respectively, agree to join forces in order to prevent Armageddon

I love it so bad. I’ll probably stop my women only reading this year and pick up a copy of the book to re-watch again after I read the book.

Addy has also taken to watching the Marvel movies she hasn’t seen. Fortunately we have the DVDs so we’ve seen Thor, Iron Man 2, Captain America Civil War. I’m also rewatching Schitt’s Creek.
