It’s been a while but Lauren and I wanted to do an Add It To My List because we have some recommendations that we would force on you in real life if we got together.
Podcasts
Conan Needs A Friend
Okay so Conan is funny to me. Just always and forever. Anyway he’s gotten into the podcast game and has his friends on just to chat. The Timothy Olyphant episode had me cackling in my neighborhood while I was walking the dog. Listen.
Strong Black Legends
Tracey Clayton (@brokeymcpoverty) was the host of Buzzfeed’s Another Round podcast but fell double victim to all of their cuts. Anyway Netflix has her hosting a new podcast Strong Black Lead where she interviews Black Hollywood legends and literally gives them their flowers.
Also, follow @StrongBlackLead on all the things because they let you know what all the Black stuff is on Netflix each month. Amazing.
TV
Lindy West’s show Shrill, yes the book, is starting on Hulu and stars Aidy Bryant and Samantha Irby is a writer. If any of those names mean anything to you then write it down that it starts March 15th. Or write it down that it’s 6 episodes and then sign up for the Hulu trial like April 19th or whatever and solid binge.
Books
Stacey Abrams, THE Stacey Abrams that ran for Governor in Georgia, writes romance novels under the name Selena Montgomery. I was flabbergasted when I found this out and I don’t use the word flabbergasted often. I’m going to add one of the books to my ever growing TBR list.
IG
I love @akimdesigns. She draws the best pop culture sketches. Sketches the best pop culture drawings?? Anyway go follow her
New Boondocks!
Ok so Aaron McGruder is back to drawing The Boondocks comics. Except digitally, not in the paper. And except he doesn’t have social media and sends them to Charlamagne Tha God to post on Instagram. It’s extremely annoying because I’m absolutely not going to follow Charlamagne.
Beauty
After I turned 36 my skin went to hell. It’s been a terrible mess of 2/4 life crisis or Puberty v3.6 or something. I went to the dermatologist and it was a stupid endeavor that cost me a lot of money. But I found Curology, a very pro millennial virtual online subscription service that sends you face medicine for $40 every two months. It’s fantastic.
But the thing that’s made the biggest difference in my skin is LABeautyologist’s (licensed esthetician) 60 second rule. You wash your face for 60 seconds. That’s really it. No special brush tool. And no $80 cleanser. Just wash your face with your fingers for at least 60 seconds. It’s hard to count to 60, so just sing The Fresh Prince theme song.
Here’s her video about it
What are your list additions?!
My skin completely changed at 37 or 38. Those were a trying few years.
Stacey Abrams writes romance?! WOW. How some crazed right-wingers haven’t seized on this is amazing.
Thanks for the Fresh Prince suggestion. I’ve been trying to do the 60-second thing but couldn’t think of a good way to count without getting distracted.
