The Revivalist – Men Amongst Mountains
So you can send messages on Spotify. Did you know that? Like “hey I think you should try give this a listen” or “here check out my playlist” and send it to your friends. Lauren knew that. And she told me to check out The Revivalist for #NewMusicMonday.
The Revivalist are a rock band from New Orleans so as things from New Orleans go, they are a mix of rock and roll, blues, country, all of that. While they don’t have as fantastic of a Wikipedia entry as Lake Street Dive, they are described as
a Crescent City-rhythm spin on jam-band jubilee
While I did get some The Black Keys and Kings of Leon vibe, I did not get the Black Keys or Leon feels. But have also been listening to higher levels of rock than normal. So while it was a nice listen, some of the songs blended together for me and I had to check the titles a few times to make sure that somehow I wasn’t listening to the same song or I had put the CD on repeat. I am glad that this wasn’t subject to NewMusicMonth regulations because I was distracted when I first listened but after the third go-round two days later, I came around to it.
If I developed a rating system, I would say 3/5 units of measurement. But I haven’t, so it’s somewhere between wouldn’t turn it off, but not rushing out to buy.
Here’s a sample:
Glad you didn't hate it! Though we have to agree to disagree on this one because I just like their sound. I rarely listen to music for feelings, though, so we're looking for different things. And I never know song titles. Also, I already have good memories associated with this album so I think that affects their overall appeal. Yay spotify messages!
