Black Girl Watching 12.02.21.

Watching

Fargo S1E1-4 or 5 or something? (FX)

So I didn’t remember until I just sat down to write this post that I started watching this. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just that I don’t know if I’m going to finish S1 or just skip ahead to watch S4 for Chris Rock and Jason Schwartzman. I watch a lot of Coen Brothers movies so I know this is gruesome and unnecessarily violent like the movie Fargo but I dunno.

The Morning Show S2E3 (Apple+)

We’re slow going this season and I don’t know how I feel about it. I guess cause Hasan shaved his beard off? Cause like why are you putting Hasan Minhaj on my TV without a full beard?

Red Notice (2021) (Netflix)

Netflix knows its lane and that lane is movies in 4K that you are not good but are not bad enough to get up off the couch and go do something else. That is this movie.

Curb Your Enthusiasm S11E5, E6 (HBO)

Seth Rogen is on E6. I think E6 is the funniest so far of the season.

Insecure S5E5, E6 (HBO)

Issa tossing that baby is phenomenal. PHENOMENAL. But the way they are dragging out Issa and Nathan is killing me. Like he should not be a main character. They have a girl’s night planned for next week but like that should have been episode 2 of the season. They are not giving me FINAL SEASON. I am not for Molly and Taurean. I don’t know what exactly I want but this isn’t it.

Succession S3E6,7 (HBO)

Watching the Roys choose the next conservative Presidential candidate was too close to what I assume is real life to be enjoyable. I am really enjoying Connor this season because he is sticking it to everyone.

But y’all. Y’ALL the birthday episode?! First they finally gave me Alexandar Skarsgard. FINALLY. But just…is Shiv finally going over to Ken’s side. How is it that these people have absolutely no redeemable qualities between any of them and then I feel bad for all of them at the end of Kendall’s birthday. Except Roman. He can go to hell.

Also Tom and/or Greg are definitely going to jail.

Hawkeye S1E1-3 (Disney+)

This is the lowest stakes MCU content. That doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable but I mean we’re back to localized, tiny, manageable bad guys. But lowest stakes. I don’t like the young adult.

South Side S2 (HBO)

This is so Black and so funny. It continues with S1 shenanigans. I love it. It is laugh out loud and disturb my family while they are asleep funny.

The Beatles: Get Back Parts 1 & 2 (Disney+)

I am not putting this lightly. I am *obsessed* with this. It’s long AF. I thought 3 parts meant 3 hours but it’s 8 hours. It doesn’t matter. So after not touring for years, the Beatles get together to do some sort of live performance. But the problem is because they haven’t been performing live, they don’t have any music set up for live performances. Everything has been in the studio. They decide to write, record, and then get ready to perform a new album in January 1969. Like 3 weeks from conception to masters. The process gets recorded by a documentary filmmaker.

Now, I do enjoy the Beatles I’m not gonna lie. Cause of the 1’s album I was like “okay I’m gonna get into the Beatles” and that was enough. But they’re not the best singers. And the songwriting is fine. But they’re for real for real musicians. And aside from Yoko just always hovering, you get to see them go through the whole process. Paul coming in like “I kinda got a little bit of a song” and he starts playing Get Back and you’re like “OMG THAT’S GET BACK” and George is bored and John is spaced out and Ringo just don’t wanna be there but you’re like “HE’S CREATING GET BACK RIGHT NOW IN REAL TIME” and they arrange and write it and George quits the band and all that but I am truly fascinated at what happens when art is given time and space.

Re-Watching

I watched Arrested Development S1. I’m probably going back to Schitt’s Creek or Community.

Reading

Xeni – Rebekah Weatherspoon

This one is a steamy read, the second part (character-wise) to Rafe but not as steamy as Rafe.

The Princess Trap – Talia Hibbert

Fake engagement but typical Talia.

A Lowcountry Bride – Preslaysa Williams

This is a new author for me. A fashion designer has to move home to Carolina to take care of her father and temporarily takes a job in a bridal shop. Romance ensues. I…didn’t care for it Plus the formatting was terrible for Kindle. Bless the library.

If The Fates Allow – Rainbow Rowell

This was a free Amazon Prime short. About covid Christmases. Like, Rainbow writes snark romance and I love it but lately, she’s been writing YA fantasy romance so I miss her but I don’t want to read covid things. We’re still in it.

(I was off the week of Thanksgiving so I read a little more than usual)

Watchlist

In the next week I”m looking forward to:

And Just Like That (Sex and the City reboot) (HBO)
Nicole Byer : BBW *Big Beautiful Weirdo* (Nextlix)
Landscapes (HBO)
Harlem Ever After (Prime Video)
Abbott Elementary (ABC)

Un-Watch List

Porsha from Real Housewives Atlanta has a spinoff show about getting engaged to her friend’s husband (they got engaged before he legally filed for divorce) and her baby daddy that cheated on her before they could get married. Anyway, it seems like this would be up my alley but it is terrible. I got through 12 minutes.
