Read.
Song of Achilles – Madeline Miller (audiobook). This was Madeline Miller’s (Circe) first book but I read it after Circe. It’s the story of Achilles told by his bff Patroclus. I didn’t think I was as captivated as I was listening to Circe but towards the end of the book I was audibly gasping and in tears…at my desk at work. Ha! 5/5 rating units. Madeline built me a heart from scratch, destroyed it, and put it back together.
The Overdue Life of Amy Byler – Kelly Harms. This was a Kindle freebie and was a cute romcom and got me through two road trips. A librian’s husband up and left her and her two kids 3 years ago. SUddenly he returns and wants to get the kids for the summer while Amy goes and lives her best life. A rumspringa. Momspringa. 4/5 rating units for a quick, lite read.
The Pisces – Melissa Broder. This was on the longlist for the UK Women’s fiction list (it gave me Circe and My Sister the Serial Killer). It’s…okay so it’s about a late 30s women that is burnout writing her thesis and being a librarian (I swear I didn’t purposely pick a theme) and when her and her boyfriend suddenly calls it quits, she vacates to Venice to dogsit for her sister for the summer (again, theme is coincidental) when she falls in love with a mysterious swimmer (read: mermaid). This is not a fantasy meetcute. It’s not even similar to The Shape of Water. It’s like My Year of Rest and Relaxation mixed with a Chuck Palahunik novel (Fight Club and Snuff) and way more explicit than fantasy erotica (which I assume is a genre of fiction). I enjoyed it but I can’t recommend it to anyone. 4/5 rating units.

Love After Lockup (WEtv) has been fantastic. It’s primo trash television. PREEEEMO and deserves the utmost television awards for keeping me wholly enthralled in the ridiculous lives of people who choose to be filmed on reality TV.
The Rook -S1 (Starz) – We started this show because Olivia Munn is in it. A woman wakes up with eight dead bodies around her no memory of anything. She soon learns that she works for a British government agency and has special powers. It’s kind of like Bourne Identity meets X-Men. After 2 episodes, I do not love it. Fortunately Starz only has 8 episodes planned. It’s a book series and the Twitter fans are very upset it is not living up to the book.
Spider-Man : Homecoming (2017) – We just hadn’t watched it because it wasn’t as integral to the Thanos storyline and I really want to see Spider-Man : Far From Home so we had to see this one first. It’s a very good Spider-Man movie. It is not Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse good, but it gives Tobey MacGuire’s Spidey a run for his money.
The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018) – Yay for raunchy women buddy films. Audrey’s (Mila Kunis) boyfriend (Justin Theroux) dumps her with no reason, except she finds out that he is a spy. Once he’s killed in her apartment, her and her best friend Morgan (Kate McKinnon) set off to the UK to get the clues on who killed him. It’s a silly funny movie that’s perfect to stream on Hulu because there aren’t any good sports on TV right now.
I also finished S3 of Schitt’s Creek (againagainagain). I don’t think Netflix is getting S5 until October??? And S6 is the last season and will be airing eventually. I’m just going to suck it up and buy all the seasons because I don’t trust Netflix to keep things streaming anymore. I’m back listening to Amy Siskind’s podcast of The Weekly List where she reads out all the news and terrible things that have happened the previous week under the Tr*mp Regime. It’s tiring but I need to keep my anger at high levels. Addy has discovered To Tell The Truth on ABC and it’s a pretty funny celebrity game show thing. It’s not as funny as Ellen’s Game of Games but it’s great for the summer.
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is back this week. Jasmine Guillory has a new book coming out. Woo!
