Norah Jones – Day Breaks
Every year when magical things happen in October, I call them birthday miracles. Some time in August I was checking to see what Norah Jones was up to and didn’t see much, so I signed up for email notifications because I felt it was time she do something or another. I know there were special projects here and there but I needed some new Norah Jones.
Then I was alerted that on October 7th she’d be releasing new music and well, birthday miracle.
Obviously I am 1000% biased and Norah Jones can do no wrong. I drove to Austin to do Norah Jones record shopping. This is her sixth solo album. I have them all. AND the one with the features and that countryish girl band she did.
I had plans to purchase Day Breaks on vinyl at Cactus but when I checked, I saw the whole thing was steaming on Amazon Prime. Fantastic. Even better was that the vinyl came with a Norah Jones tote. BIRTHDAY MIRACLES.
Day Breaks is very reminiscent of Come Away With Me. Norah is a bluesy jazzy singer and while she never strayed from it on her solo albums, Day Breaks has more jazz breakdowns. Trumpet and piano solos. Lounge feeling. I love it.
My instant favorite is Tragedy. (audio only)
She’s doing a lot of press and public appearances for this album. Well, more than I remember for any other album. She was even doing a live Facebook “event” where she was taking requests and playing right there in her living room. WHAT!
Here’s the second single, Carry On
Daybreak is streaming on Amazon Prime and is available on iTunes, Amazon, physical CD, and of course at your favorite local record store.
