Emily King has been around since 2007. I think I found her in lie 2010 when Bella was like “oh hey can you find this Emily King CD (East Side Story) for me” and I found it, and borrowed it and she lived on my iPod until I actually listened to it in 2012. But she hadn’t had another full length CD since then until now. The Switch.
Bella sent me a text with a YouTube link and I promptly lost my shit but I’ve been busy catching up on podcasts so I hadn’t really been doing new music. We even mildly considered going to see her concert here in Houston a couple of weeks ago but it was a Tuesday night and those concerts are rough. (remind me of this statement in November when I go see Adele).
Anyway I finally queued it up and The Switch is great. I mean GREAT. Like I should really just make a playlist of Andra Day and Emily King and light a candle and ignore the rest of the world for six hours. It’s very mellow and she has a great voice and you kinda get a Prince vibe from it. Like New Power Generation.
My instant favorites were “The Animals”, “The Switch”, and of course “BYIMM”.

I give this a solid 4 / 5 rating units. Do yourself a favor and buy it. The deluxe edition. It’s on Spotify and Soundcloud and wherever you purchase music. I gotta make a run to Catcus for the disc (fingers crossed for vinyl).
