Day 03 – What’s Inside: Songs From Waitress
The Who:
Sara Bareilles is a fantastic human being. I assume from years of buying her music and following her on social media. She’s wonderful and sweet and quirky and if you have a story that involves something torrid about Sara, keep it to yourself because I don’t want to hear it and I won’t believe you anyway. I’ve raved about her live cover of Dock of the Bay like 1000 times so obviously I’m going to listen to anything she does.
The Why:
Anyway, she’s one of those people I would listen to if she just sang the phone book (like John Legend except I don’t like any of his CDs) but she’s also a great song writer and piano player and when I saw she was doing all the original music for Waitress the Musical I was ecstatic. I’ve seen Waitress no less than 72 times and it’s making another run on HBO so the count keeps rising.
The Deets:
It’s a musical soundtrack so there’s not much of a point to the songs if you don’t know the story. It’s 12 songs and again I was glad these were on Amazon Prime because I don’t typically do soundtracks (save for Inside Llewyn Davis because #OscarIsaacSisterhood).
Sara’s voice is phenomenal as always, and I could play the movie in my head to go along with the songs, just unless it’s Chicago, musicals ain’t my slice of pie (see, this is where it would do you good to know Waitress, so I can be punny).
Verdict:
I can really only see myself listening to this after I see the play and want to act out scenes from the inside of a diner while I act like I’m cleaning up the living room. But I am crossing all the things that the play goes on tour and comes to TUTS.
