TV Bingeing. or: How I Spent a Large Chunk of the Weekned

Netflix was made for my generation.  Obviously.  We like to do things on our own time and in abundance.  Bingeing if you will.  Over the summer, Gabby, Brownlee, and I watched all of season 1 of Orange is the New Black in two weekends.  Did we have other things to do? Maybe?  But why?

Netflix has it setup where you don’t even have to find the remote.  As soon as the credits roll, they have a 20 second countdown until the next episode starts playing.  I can’t make hoist up off the couch in 20 seconds! LET IT RIDE!

This method of binge watching is how I got through the first 5 seasons of Mad Men in a couple of months.  And it has been phenomenal.

Two weeks ago I got a notification that Season 6 had been uploaded.  This was shocking because a) I didn’t know Netflix DID notifications and 2) I thought the new season was going to be season 6 because I did as little reading on the show as possible because of spoilers or whatever.

Well. Challenge accepted.  I had two weeks to watch 12 episodes of a 50 minute series.  Which basically I broke down into 4 binge sessions with the bulk of the work done between 10pm Saturday and 1pm Sunday (8 episode stretch).

Which lead me to Sunday night.

I knew watching in real time would have some challenges.  Mostly commercials.  But I was looking forward to the thrill of live tweeting.  Especially after the Real Housewives of Atlanta finale.  8-9pm, twitter was filled with talk of Game of Thrones (and West coast whiners) and the MTV Movie Awards complaints.

At 9 I found AMC and settled in.  It took a whole 6 minutes for Don Draper to get on screen!  But it was worth it.  He was out in California being all Don Drapery.  Except now it’s 1969 and the times they are a’changing and I’m sure some college student is working on a thesis of the juxtaposition (thesis word) of Don Draper’s gray clothing and the psychedelic fabrics of the hippies and how he won’t change when everything is clearly is.

But then I noticed there is way more music on the show than Netflix leads you to belive.  I know when Daria was finally released on DVD they had issues obtaining all the rights to the music so I don’t know if that’s just the case for all series or what but it kinda changed the mood of the show.  It’s still slow and depressing but with sound lol.

I still hate Pete Campbell even though he’s in L.A. as well.  He’s the type of person where if you saw him on the street you would punch him like in that Roseanne movie.  I suppose the writers are that good and the guy that plays him is just that good but I don’t need a reality check.  I just want to punch him.

Oh and Megan is totally going to get killed Sharon Tate style.

Are you watching? We’re also watching House of Cards.  What do we do after this?! What’s bingeable on Netflix? (obviously everything, Addy binge watches Lego Ninjago. Be specific).

  1. We started season two of House of Cards but haven't finished it. I vote for 24. Completely ridiculous and mostly mindless but if you don't already know about Jack Bauer's awesomeness then give it a try. Rescue Me is also a really good show but weird in parts. Oooooh what about Homeland? I think you would love some crazy Carrie.

    1. We are BEYOND psyched for Jack Bauer to be back on TV. I think we didn\’t finish season 1 (we started at 4 and went backwards then back to real time or something) but yes. JACK!!!
OOh I\’ve heard about Homeland. I\’ll have to queue it up.

  2. : You and your crazy Netflix, you sound like my kids, lol. I am however, going to get on the ball and start House of Cards, soon, very soon 🙂

      1. If I end up hating it, curse both you and Paris!! 🙂 Also, you don't need that in your room, you'll just end up complaining on my social media feeds, lol 🙂
