The bumpies taught me about sensory play. And I love them for it.
No this isn’t some dirty Fifty Shades beeswax.
It’s basically letting your kid explore different textures with their hands.
The other night I noticed Addy was moving her hamburger and eggs from her plate to a bowl with her spoon. I figured now would be a good time to try it. The weather is still nice but not hot, so I grabbed a couple bowls of Gladware, a few scoops of rice, and a measuring cup. We went out to the patio, and I let her have at it.
She loved it! I loved it! She played with rice for a solid 30 mins. We only really quit because she dumped most of the rice out which resulted in the “Oh God!” video hilarity. I bought some green peas for her to try because they shouldn’t be so hard to scoop. A whopping 80 cents for entertainment should be worth it.
Hooray for internet moms! Parents, have any of you tried this? Should I try some other cabinet ingredient? Non-parents, did you ever do this as a kid and I missed out on something so cool?
Okay, your aunt is an OT and I could help you with this. Try hiding small items in rice or beans and let her look for them. Also, you could introduce playdoh, but supervised initially in case she tries to taste it.
Yeah she didn't like a mouth of rice lol, but it took her 20 minutes before she tried to taste it. I dunno if I want to clean PlayDoh but if I see some on sale we'll go for it…outside.
How fun! I love all the creative activity ideas that other ppl come up with and share online. I feel like a real ho-hum mom when I realize how many great baby toys or projects are just staring me in the nose.
it's funny how bad she loves it…but then again…like I told you, when I go to the beach, I love playing in the sand…feeling it b/w my fingers and what not, so either I'm slow or we all enjoy some type of sensory play. also…I love that initial face. and of course, "oh god!" that lil' baby is a mess. I <3 it. 🙂
