Finally! A year and a half.  An easy frame of reference for non parents and parents alike to count.  Addy is 1.5 years old. How easy is that! I’m going to say that until December when I can bump her age up to “almost 2” and then in February she’ll be 2.  And I will probably start to freak out around January.  Hooray.

Anyway, I know I say it every month, but Addy is having full blown one-sided conversations with us.  She pauses for effect, she raises her tone at the end of her sentences and waits for us to answer.  Apparently, she’s funny, at least to herself.  Hooray.  But we don’t really understand any of it.  And if you want an accurate representation of myself of YaYa on the telephone, just give Addy any object.  She imitates us perfectly.  “Hello, Oh hey jibbajabbajibbajabbajabbajibba ha ha ok…bye bye.”  Lots of hand movements and facial expressions.  We have also learned through Addy’s imitations that YaYa opens cereal bars with her teeth.  So yay YaYa lol.

Her official 18-month checkup is sometime next week so I’ll get more accurate stats (for those who care), but I already told you see was too tall.   We have an idea of what her weight is because she likes to stand on the bathroom scale and offset the balance so much that the other day it told me I was 110 and it was too early in the morning for me to properly catch the screw up.  I thought someone had cursed me…THINNER.
I’m making a special trip to IKEA this weekend because she’s basically too grown (read: attitude not exactly height in this case) for the high chair.  Plus it’s basically a pain in the butt for her to drag the chair into the living room so we can all sit around and eat dinner and watch TV (like real Americans do).  Our side table is actually the perfect height for her wooden reading chair, so we’ve just been letting her sit there and make a mess with rice and yogurt and marker or whatever else she chooses to do in her seat.  But that also means all my magazines and coasters are just on the floor on the side of the couch, so I basically HAVE to go to IKEA now. YAY!

We’ve also been making a little progress on sleeping.  Addy can straight up say “night night” and will do so when she’s sleepy.  That doesn’t in anyway mean I can just put her in her crib and walk away and that be the end of it.  Normally I would have to coax her to get in the bed with me in the dark and incredibly boring silence.  Then after about 30 minutes of singing and talking she would fall asleep.  But then I would sneak out of the bed and she would catch me and that was an extra 10 minutes.  THEN I would make it out of the room and wait about 20 minutes before I put her back in her crib, which you would swear was made of nails because she would shoot right up like “ok let’s play”.

Sometimes she’d wake up with teething or allergy issues in the middle of the night and one of us would just drag us back into the bed with us and we would have baby feet in our face or ribs or whatever for the rest of the night.  But I started to go in and just sit on the side of her crib for about 10 minutes and she would lie down and go back to sleep.

Now she will come up to me and say “night night” with her blanket and we go lay down in my bed and 10 minutes or so later she’ll be out.  Sunday night I kicked it up a notch and just laid her in her crib and sat on the side.  25 minutes later she was out.  I might grab a lamp from IKEA so I can just read to her till she falls asleep.  And not Curious George or Madeline, whatever I’M reading! So Addy can get an earful of Jennifer Lancaster’s “My Fair Lazy” because I can’t seem to put a dent in that.

And here’s the official year and a half sheet!

And here is the picture I wanted to use.

  1. Aw, so much fun! G is just about to turn 1,5, and I've been eagerly awaiting it so that I can stop saying to people, "he's 17 weeks old," and seeing their faces go all wonky as they try to do the math. 😉 It's funny, G likes to pretend to speak on the phone like Addy does, but when we give him a real phone with someone speaking, he clams up, go fig!

  2. lol @ the picture you wanted to use. and yeah…she’s being real stingy with kisses now…but i’ll take what I can get. hugging is my fave anyway. 🙂
