No means No.

We’ve crossed into new territory with Addy.  She fully understands and correctly uses the word “no”.

She was sick the other day.  I suppose from teething or day care germs or whatever.  Either way, she was hot and was laying on me making me hot.  So being a mom, I figured the best thing to do was to stuff food down her face to make her feel better.  Apparently this is just inbred because I never understood why moms did that.

Anyway, we get out the bed and pad over to the kitchen where I offer her the breakfast staples.  A banana, a cup of Greek yogurt, or an Eggo waffle.  She said uh uh to all three.  But I didn’t care and popped the Eggo into the toaster.  Then I figured I’d give her options and also chopped up the banana.  We sat on the couch to watch Wow Wow Wubzy (basically the worst thing ever invented) and I offered the goodies to her.  She said uh uh to the banana again but I slipped a piece of Eggo into her hand and she nibbled on it.  Score one for Mommy.

Cut to Wednesday morning.  She’s feeling better.  We’re all at home for the holiday.  We go to the kitchen again and repeat the routine.  I say “ooh look a waffle”.  Addy shakes her head.  I say “you want this?” She looks me square in my face.

“No.”

I pop it anyway, because we had just went through this and she ate the waffle so I am Mommy (read: Bee) and will do it anyway.

You think she ate the waffle?

She did not.

I tried the small piece sneak into her hand.  She just yelled NO!

UGH! I’m not ready for this.  I don’t care if this is karmic payback for when I was a child and constantly repeated no to my mommy.  What am I supposed to do?  So far it hasn’t been in talk-back fashion, just food refusal.  But I’m sure she knows this applies to basically anything I tell her so it’s just a matter of time before we have a screaming match.

Also, I really wanted this picture for Wordless Wednesday, but it was 4th of July and we took good outside pics at Ariel’s.

  1. get your mind right!!! having a strong willed daughter is better than having one that easily swayed. remember that as you two “hone” that strong will over the next few years.

  2. This sort of makes me glad Ben is a little behind on talking. Although, he started with the head shake about the same time and my goodness….he is a PUNK!
