Just realized I haven’t blogged on here since April, so I’d like to apologize to my fans…LOL.
I’m trying to learn how to handle the mute holiday of Father’s Day. Let’s just say it was never a big deal around my household growing up. I lived with a single mother and she wasn’t the one to try and call Father’s Day a 2nd Mother’s Day just because she played both roles…that simply made her a great mom, not a mom & dad. But that’s a whole ‘nother blog for a different day. While I’m on the topic of Father’s Day in society, let me say this, please quit with the “Happy Father’s Day” texts, posts and tweets with disclaimers. You know what I mean, the “Happy Father’s Day to all the real dads that take care of their kids…” because nobody does that on Mother’s Day…it assumes horrible moms don’t exist just like horrible dads. And if you’re a horrible dad, you know it and you shouldn’t be trying to celebrate Father’s Day any damn way! Ok, got that off my chest.
Father’s Day is one of those holidays that are like double-edge swords to me. Most holidays I’m grateful for my own family, but then I miss my parents and wish they had the chance to meet Addy. There is nothing I can do about it now, but it goes through my mind. I decided to go visit my dad at the Houston National Cemetery on Friday after work…especially since it’s basically on my way home. It’s the one time where I despise being a Junior, it’s super spooky to see your name on a tombstone even if you know it’s not you. So to my dad, here’s to you, may he Rest in Peace.
But back to my special day. It was pretty much like a regular Sunday, but with a little more gusto.
Got some cool gifts, Safe House on BluRay which was sold out the last time I went to Target. Got a bottle of Hennessy Black. A few cool cards because people think Father’s Day is a great day to sneak in a joke or two. Also got a gift card to the local gun range to go release some steam AND a gift card to ChicFilA…can’t wait to find the time to use them. For the most part it was a day to hang out with family, so that’s what I wanted to do. Went got an awesome breakfast with the kid, grandparents and Aunt T-Mite. Then over to the grandparents’ house to rest, relax and wait on grilled steaks with potatoes to be made for dinner.
Overall, it was an awesome day. I take being a great dad as a serious commitment so I’m cool with having a holiday. Everything was great, no barking from the dog, no smog, and I even had my breakfast with no hog…so loosely translated “Today was Good Day”.
Thanks for tuning in…..
